from their web site:

Wiard's Orchards, Inc., was founded in 1853 by George Wiard. Originally the orchard was located on Wiard Road near what is now known as Willow Run Airport. In those years Wiard's operated a fruit farm and vinegar plant. During World War II the bomber plant constructed at Willow Run forced the orchard to move.

In 1943 the Wiard family moved their business to its present location at 5565 Merritt Road in Ypsilanti Township. 1956 brought about the addition of a retail shop at Wiard's. In 1966 that shop was remodeled into our present cider mill and a new farm market was constructed as well. 1984 brought the addition of the Country Fair to Wiard's. This 10 acre area boasts the 4000 sq. ft. Apple Blossom Pavilion, Animal Farm, Pony Corral, Music Stage, the Ultimate Haunted Barn, Pizza Shoppe, Grill Shack and Candle Shoppe. A complete sports facility including Softball Diamond, Basketball Court, Volleyball Courts, and Horseshoe Pits were added during the early 1990's to facilitate the launching of Wiard's Corporate Picnics.

Striving to meet the needs of the customers, many changes and improvements have been made by six generations of the Wiard Family. Today, Wiard's Orchards covers nearly 200 acres with many diversified operations. These include a Cider Mill, Country Store, Gift Barn, Wagon Rides, Face Painting, Petting Farm, Homestead Company Picnics, Evening Hayrides and "Night Terrors" -- the maximum in haunted entertainment the month of October...and much more! There is an admission charge. Please call us at (734)482-7744 for more details.

The Country Fair brings thousands of people to Wiard's on weekends in September and October for family fun.

This diversification, and of course growing apples the way 148 years has taught us, continues to make Wiard's a fun filled experience you will long remember.
