Yost Ice Arena (6,603 capacity) is recognized as one of the premier hockey venues in the nation and one of the toughest places for visiting teams to play. Construction of Yost Field House began in 1922, and by its completion in November 1923 became the nation's first Field House. It is named in honor of Michigan's legendary football coach and athletic director, Fielding H. Yost.

Yost is home to the University of Michigan Hockey and Synchronized Skating programs and is the oldest rink in the city. It's a great place to skate; the ice is top notch and you're surrounded by the history of the UM hockey program. They offer open skating including the Ann Arbor tradition of the Noon Skate, from 12-12:50 each weekday, and they are the home ice of multiple local Hockey programs including some AAAHA teams, all of Ann Arbor's 6 MSWHL (Metro Skater's Women's Hockey League) teams, and UM intermural house leagues, as well as skating classes and hockey clinics. Yost is reasonable to rent at $190/hour non-prime time, but Yost has the most restrictive rules of the Ann Arbor rinks. You cannot bring in any food although they will open the Concession stand, and you are not allowed to have sticks, pucks, or goals on the ice unless everyone on the ice is in full gear, which makes it hard for a casual hockey / skating party. However, there is usually plenty of parking available and it is a fun place to skate. They do not list available ice on their website so it's best just to call.
