While the 95033 zip code is central to the neighborhood that this wiki discusses, it doesn't fully define the actual area.

We're in the southern end of the Santa Cruz Mountains. What knits our community together isn't just a zip code, but a way of life. Consider:

  • We're remote, but not too remote. Town is 15 - 30 minutes away for most of us, and we live near major, metropolitan areas. We have many of the amenities of city living, but we don't live in the city.
  • We're near Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz. Our outlook on things is difficult to pigeon hole as a result.
  • We're mostly rural. Our concerns include wells, mountain lions, wildland fires, and other things that rarely - if ever - bother city and suburb dwellers.

Of course we share many concerns with our city and suburban neighbors: schools, roads, where to get a good burrito. But our lifestyle really is a bit different from those down in town, and it shows in how we live.

If you like more specifics about where we live, the map on this page is a very rough outline of the 95033 zip code. Online maps of the actual zip code differ, so here are a few links: google maptechnica.com zipmap.net

But again, none of those maps adequately defines the area in question. Our wiki got its start from a conversation on a local mailing list. That list had existed for several years already, and its membership extends well beyond the 95033 zip code. We have members as far north as Skylonda, farther south along the 17 corridor, and down towards Boulder Creek and Ben Lomond, along the Soquel San Jose corridor, and east beyond the obvious zip code borders as well.

Our mailing list welcomes new members from any of those areas, and this wiki is intended to help all the residents of the area find useful information.
