2007-12-31 13:15:09   Glad that you're "delurking," and thanks for your comments on my page. I thought your Soga's comment was interesting. The reviews have been so negative that I have completely avoided the place. But maybe I should give them a try! —CovertProfessor

2008-01-14 13:50:21   saying you have a "valid reason" for staying anonymous intrigues me. —ElleWeber

2008-01-15 05:13:54   Hey, have you heard Dr. Drew's new (as of late November 2007) daytime radio show? It is basically a grown up Loveline for adults, with politics and news mixed with medical and social discussion. Picture more married couples calling in and fewer teenagers... basically the caller's age and life situation shifted up a dozen years. (And I hope that your pseudonym isn't connected to your dislike, and is more just a quirky thing). —JabberWokky

2008-01-16 00:22:09   Still spend a chunk of my time working in legislative history, and I also have my own practice. —JaimeRaba

2008-01-16 19:18:39   Thrifty of you. DavisWiki appreciates your involvement :) I hope your situation clears up happily. —ElleWeber

2008-02-18 12:04:23   I'm going to UC Day 2008. —JaimeRaba

2008-02-19 22:42:55   Great taste in crepes (California w/ regular pesto!) I have curly hair too! —mj

2008-02-24 20:17:27   I'm actually going as a delegate for UC Riverside, but will be saying hi to UCD folks throughout the day so feel free to flag me down and say hi if you're so inclined. —JaimeRaba

2008-03-24 00:40:07   Hi! :D Your profile is so unmistakably "you" See you around. ~Ayn —AynReyes

2008-03-24 00:41:49   p.s. I knew you were a loveline fan because of the "mahalo" in the log ;) —AynReyes

2008-03-29 19:22:33   Hi curlygrl, Yeah I was surprised to see so few negative comments on Zocalo. That place sux. Thanks for the backup!

Btw... Adam Carolla, Familly guy, and Billy Joel? All great. Diet Coke though? ew. :) —jefftolentino

2008-03-30 19:04:05   You have ADHD?

And have you ever read that book that was basically loveline transcripts spun as a book? —StevenDaubert

2008-03-30 19:50:52   Cracked was actually supposed to be titled utter hell, the publisher probably bullied Drew into giving it the broken egg motif. I had bought the book like 9 months before it came out. Heh

I was Diagnosed with ADHD @ age 4. I was on Ritalin till age 13 and Adderall ever since.

Not really a fan of striker, but Adam did a better job being bad cop. Haven't heard an AM Drew show but I'm sure it sounds interesting, and yes I know about the archives. —StevenDaubert

2008-03-30 20:15:33   btw, Drew does all that you mentioned, plus runs his own private practice (in addition to being the head of the chemical dependency unit), and has to raise triplets... —StevenDaubert

2008-03-31 01:07:37   Strattera is the non stimulant correct? Sure the Adderall works great, I'm taking the 30mg XR, and it seems to work. I used to have some Dexadrine for it's fast acting properties. All throughout medication, when it was Ritalin or Adderall I've never really been able to notice the effects but other people can. That picture is 5 years old, I have it so outdated for a reason. If you really want a recent one I'm sure I could find something. Did you have an IEP or go thru any special ed or was your diagnosis more recently? The catch with me is my mom is a school Psychologist so it's her job to look for these things and stuff like autism, etc. Thats why It got noticed at such a young age. Fascinating story I know -.- —StevenDaubert

2008-03-31 20:09:51   I've heard of welbutrin. Yeah the IEP really helped, insomuch as that it would be a ridiculous amount of text to explain why =/ Where did you get diagnosed? Did you get a referral cause you suspected that you had ADHD? It would seem that you didn't get much support / understanding at a younger age. Were you a troublemaker in class? I sure raised a fair amount of hell during my tenure with DJUSD. You have an AOL email.... Do you use AIM?

As far as your parents telling you to just focus... I'm going to ask my mom for some literature of a scientific natural that has been documented and peer reviewed, or for a good little speech on what makes ADD and ADHD different. —StevenDaubert

2008-04-01 13:08:53   You can be the NEXT defense attorney that he hooks up with. For sure. —AynReyes

2008-04-06 20:13:39   Yay ADHD people! Its not to not feel alone with it. I wonder if we should create a page for it on here... —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-04-07 17:05:09   I'd totally be down to help create a page dedicated for people as gifted as us. I know everyone deals with ADHD differently, and I was lucky to have the support of some really great people when I found out how bad things were 8 years ago. However, I'm sure there are those out there that have no idea what to do or can afford to do something about it. This would be a great project! —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-04-09 14:43:10   I think we might need to think about what the page will consist of before having a title. Or maybe what to link to. Or maybe just start with the title anyways and see what blossoms from that. But then we might end up on another topic instead and forget the whole ADHD page thing... —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-04-09 17:44:19   Ok, just created a new page called "ADHD" and, yes, I know its not inventive. But its a start. Btw, do you really have curly hair or is that something else? —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-04-09 20:12:27   I'm bummed that Adam was kicked off Dancing with the Stars, but I'm also a little relieved since that means I don't have to sit through the show anymore. Glad to see a fellow Ace Man fan. :) —EmmyMelton

2008-04-09 21:53:26   I love Adam Carolla. I wish I could find a guy with his personality. I'd marry him. Anyway, I'm also kind of relieved that he was booted off just so I don't have to tune in each week. I'm not crazy about DWTS, I only watched to support Adam. He did a good job and now we can all get our Monday and Tuesday nights back. I'm sure that Adam is relieved as well. Four weeks of that had to be exhausting. Unlike the other "celebrities", Adam has a full time gig. —CurlyGirl26

2008-04-09 22:31:19   Hey curly, whats your stance on left turns on red? —StevenDaubert

2008-04-11 00:07:30   you can't get over something you don't have! ADD/ADHD totally isn't recognized by the AMA (or peer reviewed psych journals) and it sure doesn't make you eligible for protection under the ADA —StevenDaubert

2008-04-11 00:14:22   11) Please, don't crap out any more kids. Society doesn't need any more criminals, drug addicts, abusers and people of that ilk.

2008-04-12 17:43:30   Hi - I'm a fan of Sophia's Thai bar (great blender drinks) and also Daubert's mom. I will look for some articles on ADD in my file cabinet at work. —Davisalum

2008-04-12 21:45:58   Thank you, Davisalum! I appreciate the info!! —CurlyGirl26

2008-04-12 21:56:51   Heh, I already have a couple of those books on that list. I didn't realize there was so much more literature out there. Of course, weeding through the viable ones is the tricky part. But since I work at a bookstore, thats not too much trouble for me. —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-04-14 16:34:09   Uh, I hope you realize I'm the publicist for The Avid Reader. Or am I an exception to your dislikes list? —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-04-15 19:14:02   I was going to say something about ADD but I forgot what it was. Sweet irony. —BradBenedict

  • Shouldn't that be "but I got distracted from what it was?" —SunjeetBaadkar

I guess it's kinda both. I thought of a bunch of stuff before I wrote it, which distracted me, then I forgot what it was. —BradBenedict

  • Well that is common among us ADD-ers. Welcome to my world. Happens all the time.

2008-04-17 17:47:36   Probably, I've written so many I forget what I actually wrote. Well, thanks for letting me interview you. —LizethCazares

2008-04-17 20:11:36   I think I forgot about getting back to you yesterday >_< my bad

2008-04-21 14:02:52   Sorry I've been scarce! I've just been very busy lately. Maybe in the summer I'll have more time to contribute. I'm still out here lurking, though. And thanks for the comment, it's nice to be missed. —CovertProfessor

2008-04-25 14:03:26   I think people name drop to associate themselves with a known institution or person so that way they feel known. Its not so much insecurity, but rather comfort. They want to be remembered, usually; they tend to want you to remember them. Its probably not something significant, but more of a passing feeling people have while they talk to you. I doubt the person remembered they name-dropped after the conversation was over. Then again, there are those odd people that plan name-dropping to a science (much like planning pick-up lines). —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-04-25 17:50:59   don't hurt yourself! —BradBenedict

2008-04-26 19:02:28   Well, the problem is that I still have to see my doctor down in Fresno once a year for another review. I was just hoping to find someone local. The doctor I used to see was through my insurance, so it was easy. But since having lost my insurance, I also lost her. —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-04-27 15:30:01   At least dating is fun. But when you work until 10pm almost everyday, its sorta hard to have a social life. —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-05-08 15:54:09   Another escapee from Woodland! Since you wish to remain anon. (which is cool imo) I'd try and figure out a commond thread event/person wise by saying "Hey remember that time (Event) happened in Woodland?!" but since nothing memorable HAS happened there, I suppose its better and more of a conversation / sleuthing starter to say "Hey, remember that time SOMETHING happened in Woodland?".

2008-05-16 18:06:14   Dos Coyotes doesn't serve Tex Mex cuisine, they serve Southwest cuisine. It is more "chuck wagon" derived... two different lineages of food that both use similar ingredients due to geographic availability. Southwest cuisine is harder to come by in California. Or, to put it in music terms, Dos Coyotes is John Denver, not Ranchero music... you'll never get to that damn accordion no matter how long you wait. Of course, people can easily like or dislike both. —JabberWokky

2008-05-17 22:40:50   How dare I? How DARE I? I... I say good day, sir. I SAY GOOD DAY!!! ;) —JabberWokky

2008-05-30 18:51:29   Adderall is good, but I prefer Provigil. I have to import it from India though due to the price here in the good old USA. Modalert brand seems to work just fine, but requires somewhat high doses. Since you seem like a thoughtful person, what do you see as the underlying defect in ADHD? I am sure that you are aware that the true nature of ADD or ADHD remains elusive. About your Chinese food problem: can you narrow it down at all? I'm sure you have ruled out MSG contamination (also watch for sulfites, used extensively as preservatives in salad bars, dried fruit, almost all wine). Have you ever tried eating high quality Asian food, like P.F.Chang's (in Sacramento), or Pei Wei (Rocklin)? How about Thai food? My favorite is the tofu dishes at P.F.Chang's (Roseville or downtown Sac). JeffersonKamau —JeffersonKamau

  • Could you let me know how you get Adderall from India? I would definitely be interested as I do not currently have insurance in Davis and have to keep spending a day or two traveling back home to see my family doctor every month. Also, does this apply to Ritalin (as I've found that it works better for me at 20mg doses)? —SunjeetBaadkar
    • Lolwut, contain yourself sunjeet. Jeff, they don't make generic provigil? Or pharmacys in the US just won't give it to you? As far as an "underlying defect" I would have to say it's the lack of signal jumping the synapse, hence why the amphetamine crowd helps with concentration and focus—StevenDaubert
    • Hey JeffersonKamau! In order: I haven't tried Provigil. I didn't even know it was used to treat ADHD. Hey, is it possible to get Adderall from India? Because, I could sure use some. Mmmmmmm. . . adderall. My sweet ambrosia.

As far as the underlying defect goes, I've read all of the same literature you guys have. We still don't know much about how the biology operates. Re: my Chinese food problem. Upscale Chinese is all I can eat. P.F. Chang's (and above) is about the only Chinese food that doesn't make me sick. When I crave Chinese, I usually go there. Or I'll roll by Hunan's and score some hot&sour soup. I like Chinese food, but I know that if I eat the Panda Express fare, I'll get sick, every single time. I try and avoid MSG even though it's almost impossible. I don't really know WHY Chinese food makes me sick, but it does. As for Thai food, that is no problem. I love it AND I can eat it. Good times.

    • I thought you were saying you get Provigil from India, cause it is absurdly expensive here. I looked into that, but couldn't find any pharmacies willing to sell it to me, even though I had a prescription. Any tips? BTW, StevenDaubert, they make generic provigil, but it doesn't seem to exist in the US. I think it's cause of patent reasons. —BradBenedict

2008-06-06 11:40:58   Any ideas on a Dawiso bbq gathering? —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-06-16 18:00:35   Thanks curly...I was just responding to the comment of someone else by deleting my name. I didn't want people to think I added myself to the notable King Hall alums! I hope to accomplish far more in my life to achieve notoriety! —ScottLay

2008-06-22 22:24:51   Howdy. I spent a couple of my endless summer hours today keeping shawn650 from being too obnoxious, by removing or editing pages he had defiled. For some reason, he took offense at this and so made the stalkers page in some sort of attempt to get back at me. You can see why I bothered if you look at the Davis Movers page. —JoePomidor

2008-07-12 10:38:25   Is it wrong that I don't feel like going to the Dawiso tomorrow? I'm just feel so lazy right now... —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-07-17 14:47:57   Don't worry about flaking. I did too. Is it bad that I'm trying to organize this thing and I don't even remember to show up? The weekend blew by in a flurry of school work, my full-time job, and going over the lease for my new house. Chaos was everywhere. Oh well...maybe next time... —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-07-17 22:05:21   I'm over in west davis. Over near the lake. In fact, immediately south of it...sadly though, not connected to it. But my new house is incredible. Marble countertops, hardwood flooring, patio'd backyard perfect for a garden and bbq party. I'm so excited. We have the keys but can't move in until the end of August. The wait is killing me! —SunjeetBaadkar

2008-08-18 15:27:32   I like how LA deals with the left turn issue: you get a protected left turn for maybe ten seconds, then after that it's unprotected. That way at least a few cars get through every green and you have the opportunity to keep trying. —ElleWeber

2008-11-22 20:20:56   In regard to you questions on the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus page: please see “Violence, Guns and Drugs: A Cross-Country Analysis”, Jeffery A. Miron, Department of Economics, Boston University. in which it states Countries with the strictest gun-control laws also tended to have the highest homicide rates.. Actually Oleg Volk has a pretty good website about the issue: http://www.a-human-right.com/. —JasonAller

"2008-11-24 20:56:03"   In response to your comment >>I would also imagine that conceal carry would have a chilling effect on college campuses. So since people want to carry in case they need to defend themselves, then more people will think that they, too, need to carry to defend themselves in the event something should happen. Since no one knows who's armed, now we're just fueling paranoia. Is the guy sitting right there who's giving me the Stink Eye armed? Is he a sociopath or just some socially awkward kid? The few people who carry feel safe and the rest of us are now just uncomfortable going to school.<< I would point out the following:

1. There is a 1997 FBI study that concluded that the rate of concealed carry for adults in their 20s was around 0.5%. (“In The Line of Fire: Violence Against Law Enforcement,” U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Institute of Justice, 1997). Not having done the math, I'm not sure how this would project to UC Davis' population, especially given that California is restrictive may-issue, not shall-issue.

2. Go to a right-to-carry state, go up to someone, and ask him or her when the last time he/she noticed another person carrying a concealed weapon was. Concealed carry means concealed carry. Concealed handguns would no more distract college students from learning than they currently distract moviegoers from enjoying movies or office workers from doing their jobs. —BrendanChan

2008-12-28 14:21:24   Hey, I have three things to say to you:

  1. It looks like you wanted that numbered.

  2. It's a pain in the ass when you add or remove things from a numbered list.

  3. Wikimeisters noticed this awhile back, and if you just use "1" over and over (edit this entry and check out this list), it'll autonumber the items. —JabberWokky

2008-12-31 00:02:19   The classic mistake (which you're doing with the bullets right now) is not to put a space in front:

* This list * is not * a list

If you put a space in, then:

  • This list
  • is now
  • a list!

As I say, it's a pretty common mistake, and affects the autonumbering as well. —JabberWokky

2009-02-05 23:03:31   Using affect when you mean effect is also a common error. :-) —IDoNotExist

2009-02-05 23:05:38   This is not to say that you did, just that it is common. :-) —IDoNotExist
