Hi! I'm Nimo and I've been in Davis for a looooooong time! I love wikis, live music and all the sculptures in Davis!

I've been a graduate student in the town for a long while, having poignant moments in the dungeon of the Kemper hall.

Though I'm no longer affiliated with the university, Davis has its permanent place in my heart. I love the city and I hate the university

Davis-visits Travelog (alumni tour)

  • June 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th (and 21st, I suppose)
    • Olga (the best AirBnB in town) was kind enough to host me yet another time.
    • Parallel to FarMar, right around the corner a group of friendly folks have tables and showcase their creations!!
      • Some people sell photos of their travels to coasts and ocean
      • A person (JJ) had a joystick setup and a video game that pedestrians could pick up and play. He would explain to them how they can play but honestly people picked it up by themselves without explanation.
      • A person sells Lunar Calendars and candles (right next to the video game table)
    • FarMar now has a blackberry booth!! "best berries!!"
    • Did you know a new "makerspace"-y place has opened up? It's called the Davis Bike Collective and it's listed as "one of the most radical spaces" in one of the local magazines. You should go visit just to checkout the artwork and lights, let alone the DIY bikes. :)
    • "Rosé all day!" (x2)

TODO.

What I love about Davis?

  • Solano Park, I lived here for about 5 years. Unfortunately, the campus made the distasteful choice of tearing down Solano Park. Will it be replaced by affordable housing for international graduate students and graduate students with families? Probably not. Unfortunately, Solano Park will have the same faith as Orchard Park, and chances are that they will be run by third party contractors, in the same style as West Village apartments are. This will not help with the hiking rent situation in Davis.
  • The Arboretum
    • I love the main spot where tons of ducks always hangout
    • I love the area behind Solano Park
    • I love the area behind law school, the patch that is dedicated to native americans
  • The music scene and the radio station
    • Every quarter, the radio station hosts new DJ seminars. It's a great experience, you'll learn a lot about sound equipments, Vinlys, music in general and how to operate a live radio station! I did not sign up to get a show as it was a big time commitment and Coronavirus happened, but try participating in the seminars! It's FREE!
    • The radio station used to host a yearly festival called ORMF (operation restore maximum freedom). They were usually great!
  • Third Space Art Collective.. now closed :(
  • Village Bakery
    • Get a meal deal! A slice of pizza, a salad and a drink for $9. I usually get a Veggie slice with Cesar salad and Lemon and Pepper dressing. Unfortunately, they don't have their Hawaiian pizza for the meal deal, but you can get a whole Hawaiian pizza, or a half Hawaiian half Veggie, which is what I normally do.
    • I love their Rustic Roles, and their pastry is amazing. Treat yourself to a Napoleon sometime.
    • Barbari
      • Can be a great dip for Campbell tomato soup
  • Village Pizza and Grill
    • Another establishment by the owner of Village Bakery, this place serves pizza and also Persian kabobs and some stews. I like the eggplant stew.
    • The same owner runs Pizza and Pints, which is located right across Burgers and Brew (naming coincidence?)
  • Stand up Kabob
    • Has been open a couple of years now. I've never been there, but a party host once got dinner for all from that place. Memorable and delicious.
  • Mishka's cafe
    • I was very recently introduced to their Chai Latte and Lavender Latte. Have many full stamp cards. Many hangouts in that place. People can show their arts at Mishka's. Mishka's, the theatre next door and the ice cream place are all part of the same bigger establishment.
  • Sophia's bar and its open mic (on Wednesdays)! The restaurant is okay too..
  • Burgers and Brew, of course. "Some burgers, some beers, a few laughs. Our fucking troubles are over, Dude."
    • Crepeville is owned by the same person. I like the grilled chicken sandwich at Crepeville.
  • The Eye on Mrak
  • Putah Creek Riparian Reserve (the river behind vet school)
    • Kind of a lesser known spot, perfect for a light Saturday hike. People often mistake this place with the fireplace where arboretum ends. Those are two different places.
  • Farmer's Market (yaaay!!)
    • I normally get pomegranates, persimmons, peaches,  medlars, oranges and tons of other things from Ahmad's Farm. They're the best!!
  • Sam's Mediterranean Cuisine
    • I love their Lamb Kabob sandwich, and when I feel lavish, I order fries too. The cut for their fries is larger than french fries, which is doubly good.
