Links with Victoria Hotel, Black Horse Inn, the Exchange Hotel in Adelaide. The John Crampton who on 27/10/1849 was then a cooper in Hobart, formerly of Adelaide. Party to a marriage settlement for Phoebe Wilde widow of James Wilde licensed victualler Leigh St, Adelaide. Crampton had interests in various land throughout Adelaide and also in the Upper Wakefield Valley. He returned to Adelaide; in the 1850s, he leased Sections 375, 376, 384 Hundred of Upper Wakefield to Thomas Ottaway licensed victualler Adelaide, a 7 year lease for £50 a year, with right of purchase at any time during the lease. He bought Section 384 almost immediately afterwards also in November 1853. He was still an Adelaide publican in 1874. How was he related to William Crampton labourer and farmer Adelaide and Cowandilla in 1846? Is he the same John Crampton who was a gentleman at Norwood in 1868, with a wife Ann, and children?? Apparently, as he settled part of his Upper Wakefield farmland upon her for life, and afterwards to the children of the marriage equally.
