Summary Part 2

Art Gallery of South Australia In this article I have replicated a copy of DIEDERICH's photographs made available on the Art Gallery of SA, (AGSA) website.   Alongside of these are the identical photograph, sourced from descendants in the Hahndorf community.

During covid, I set about trying to identify many of the individuals photographed.  A lot of the subjects are the relatives of Edmund's wife,  Anna Elizabeth KUCHEL.

AGSA website https://www.agsa.sa.gov.au/collection-publications/collection/?q=Diederich&type=work&has-images=yes&on-display=no&_=1743157058214&page=23  displays 537 works on black and white glass plate negatives, of Edmund DIEDERICH's over pages 1-23..  The AGSA has 583 works in total in this DIEDERICH Collection but  the last 46 negatives, on pages 23, 24 & 25 are not confirmed to be from DIEDERICH but are 'Attributed to Edmund DIEDERICH.'

I have copied a selection of these works, where I have been able to match negatives with an actual hard copy, held by the contributors to this Zebra-Project.  The glass plate black and white negative is shown alongside each matching hard copy and in the third column the place or individuals have been (where possible) identified along with the page and Accession no as provided by the AGSA website.

These homes are from the 'Kaysher' PAECH and WALLENT family, the LIEBELT and LUBASCH family and on the far right the home of 'Rentschener' PAECH and KRAMM

There are five males in this photo, the man in the middle shows a strong resemblance to JG PAECH seen in the photo below. He has white hair and full beard, is holding a light coloured top hat & is wearing a vest & knee length jacket.

Two of the men on the far left are well dressed and the other two men, quite short of stature, have vests and full beards and look alike.  Architecturally the house has been identified by Lothar BRASSE & is known as Paechtown House No 3. This fachwerk house, with half hipped roof and two unidentical chimneys, was built for Johann Gottlob PAECH by Johann Carl Friedrich FAEHRMANN.  I identify J Gottlob PAECH as being the well dressed man in the photo above.  Gottlob died in March 1912.   Photo taken before 1912.

There are 4 adults males, 2 adult females and 4 children on the verandah in this photograph. The fachwerk timber work & brick infill can be easily seen.  It is the same house as in photograph number 1.   Compare this photograph with..... & some of the individuals can be confidently identified.

The hat less male with vest & shirt sleeves is  Johann Carl Ferdinand MUELLER 1851-1928.  In 1879 he married the 2nd daughter of Johann Gottlob PAECH. All of the people in this photograph are in the photograph below plus an extra adult female & an extra child.
