Councillor David Haines retired at the end of his council term in 2006.  The years in Council were an  interesting and very 'full-on' time for David who joined the Council just as the district population explosion began.  David found that the task of forward planning for infrastructure, together with the development demands were daunting but at the same time challenging.

While David had been well involved in the bigger picture of the District, his particular connection had been to Hahndorf, where we had our own particular issues.

"It is really essential that Hahndorf has an elected member who is part ot this town, and who has an understanding of how it operates," stated David.

David had been most generous with his ward allowance to groups and organizations, as he believed that by doing so, the greater number of people benefit.  There are many worthy recipients of ward allowances across the district, from all councillors.

He had also been generous with hit time in Hahndorf, where he enjoyed hands on activities. David could be seen running up the Academy flag, cooking sausages at the Tour Down Under or planting tress at The Cedars - Hahndorf.  He had been a dab hand with the paint brush, removing graffiti, was an honorary member of most committees and organizations in Hahndorf and assisted residents with advice regarding Council matters.

Good relations with Council staff, both indoors and outdoors has come easily to David.  He believed that it was truly important to value the work of Council staff in order to achieve not only the big things, but the small tasks such as repairing bent signs, fixing potholes, and dmagaed trees which help our town looking lovely.

Thank you David for the untiring work you have given to our community. You will be missed.
