Minutes of Committee Meeting Held Wednesday 14 December 2016

3. Minutes of Previous Meeting 10 August 2016.

4. Business Arising

Jean briefly reviewed history of RDPA for visitors, updated Committee on recent emails from Greg Waller.  Greg indicated in writing that the RDPA will be brought back to Council for a vote without significant change and no further community consultation. Greg agreed to forward the final version and supporting documents to the HCA in a reasonable timeframe, before the vote.  Jeff believes the RDPA will not be brought back to Council.

Bruce commented on the Remembrance Day Ceremony, which Ann organized, and praised her efforts, thanking her for a terrific job.  Eric thought bringing everyone back to the Institute worked well and should be a tradition.  Bruce commented how fantastic our guest speaker was, and that the Catafalque party was terrific.  Margaret explained how they brought their family along to celebrate with us.  Ann sent a letter of thank you to Dr. Susan Neuhaus.

6. Election of Officers

Bruce nominated as Chair, Mike moved, Russell seconded.  Malcolm nominated as Deputy Chair, Jean moved, Tony seconded.  Eric nominated as Treasurer, Tony moved, Margaret seconded.  Jean nominated as Secretary, Bruce moved, Margaret seconded.  Janet suggested names tags.    Action Jean

8. Reports

8.1 Financial - Eric reports $4250 ($800 for Nixon’s Mill) balance $3450 13/12/16

8.2 Entrance Statement - Jeff shows photo.  Engineers design passed by Council. Fundraising.  Cost is $8000 so far, estimated total $50,000-$60,000. 3.6 meter pillars.  Donation to be discussed at next meeting.  Should be built by July.    Action Bruce, Jean, Malcolm and Eric.

Bruce apologizes for not introducing our guests.  Richard, John and Mark briefly introduce themselves.  Mark discusses his interest in the Master Plan, as Chair of the Hahndorf PS Governing Council.  Richard and John give a brief history of the Hall Committee.

8.3 Council Matters - IGA carpark opening approved.  Gin Distillery also approved.  Colonial House on Main Street renovated and possibly becoming accommodation units.  Verdun interchange on the Transport Master Plan agenda.  Eastern approach to have heavy vehicles go back on freeway.  Moving in that direction, slow.  Trail to Berenburg complete $120,000 cost.  Phil says white and yellow lines together, yellow line should continue?  Heysen Road deteriorating, trialing new road surface.  Glebe land, unjust treatment, purchased 23 years ago for community.  More traffic on Main Street, need a count.  Getting budget figures together with Jason Duffield and Greg Parker.  Great job with pots and geraniums,  getting lighting approved Academy and Main Street.  Mine running down, creating more unemployment.  Golf Club not going well.  Mount Barker Town Square sold to private owners.

8.4 Planning/Heritage - No report

8.5 Digital Progress Facebook/Wiki - Facebook group increasing, 80% out of Hahndorf?  Hahndorf National Trust has Facebook page.

8.6 Village Voice - Wendy thanks Ann and walkers.  Could we buy a bottle of wine to thank printer (Goat Track)?  Action Wendy Bruce agrees. Ann brings up number of houses in Sandra Berry development.  Bruce through VV was superb.

9. General Business

9.1 Tour Down Under 2017 Community Grant  - approved, Jim and Ann organized signs, stored in Institute.HahH

10. Other Business

10.1 Sausage Sizzle/Entrance Statement & HCA Barbecue - On hold until January meeting.

10.2 Peoples Credit Union Lottery Expression of Interest Jean - put in an Expression of Interest and it was accepted.  Jean briefly explained how the lottery works.  A fairly simple, straightforward way to raise money.  Committee agreed to give it a go.  Jean will organize books for next year.  Eric to manage process.  Action Jean  Russell noted we all belong to various community organizations, asking the same people?

10.3 Council Community Facilities Workshop - Jean attended because Penny Worland was facilitating and no one from The Institute and The Academy were available.  Workshop was about facility planning for the District. Passed on to Eric and Mike Greenwood.

10.4 Appoint Hall Committee representative - Richard explained the Hall Committee’s constitution required a certain amount of representatives on the Committee, including the Hahndorf Community Association.  Self funded the garden and wishing well, big project.  Funds available to community.   New lighting going up in garden area with security cameras.  Income comes from Camelia cottage plus small office.  Priority is to look after the hall.  Ann wrote great article in VV.  Bruce was interested in RSL connection and would like to represent the HCA.  All agreed.

Eric provided a brief update on Nixon’s Mill.  Heavy work done, waiting for Heritage to approve.  Stage 1 should be finished this year.

Russell mentioned truck flattened barrier turning from Main Street onto Pine Ave.  Restored by Council within about 36 hours.  Bus did the same thing.  Emphasises we have a problem.  Council also needs to look at pavers in the Main Street as we have an elderly population.

Phil says 6 axels still going through Main Street, log truck 9 axels.  Garden Grove 9 axel vehicles common.  Can Council contact?  Jeff has phoned Garden Grove.

Harold seeing businesses being divided.  Is Council requiring Wolf Blass to have car parking?  Jeff says yes.  Street lighting a hazard.

Mike asks who is responsible for the Main Street?  State government.

Jean asked Anne Wurlod if she was interested in joining the Committee, as she has moved to Littlehampton?  Anne would like to defer her decision.
