Minutes of Committee Meeting Held Wednesday 14 September 2016

at 9.30 am at The Institute, Supper Room

3. Minutes of Previous Meeting 10 August 2016.

Passed, Jim moved, Tony seconded.

4. Business Arising

Bruce discussed AGM. Bruce continuing to stand for the Committee, asked if everyone else is continuing. Ann may be retiring. Malcolm and Janet nominating, Lydia Kaminski also nominating. Everyone present will remain on Committee.

Poster, agreed will be distributed two weeks before AGM, process started. Notice Boards and Traders. Hang anywhere that is a good place. Sandy (hairdresser) would like a poster and Harold would like one. VV distribution will do flyers on 21/22. Advertisement in Courier, obliged by constitution. Bruce to follow up with Editor re story. Action Bruce Jim to place ad in Courier and Herald. Action Jim Agenda, Alan Campbell to speak first, followed by video by Barry Humphries, Peter Heysen and Gary Duncan. Approx 25 minutes. Access St. Michaels at 2:00pm, Paul Schmidt will do IT. Paul providing screens for artwork. Alan will bring paintings and return them to Cedars. Gary bringing his own artwork. Jim, Malcom, Bruce to set-up. Jean spoke about invitations, Ann Ferguson, Rebekha Sharkie and Isobel Redmond all attending. Need to follow up with Mark Goldsworthy, Sally Paech, and James Sexton.

Jean read through email correspondence from Greg Waller and summarized phone conversation with Abi Coad, DPTI. No further action, wait and see. Jean will get a Trim reference from Andrew Stuart’s PA. Action Jean

5. Correspondence In/Out

In/Out emails Jeff, Chris Birch DPTI RDPA, 80-90 AGM invitations.

6. Subcommittees 2015/16

6.1 Master Plan Submission - No action. Phil queried timeframe. Jean explained Nairne and Littlehampton plans must be completed first.

6.2 Heavy Vehicle Sub Committee - Phil is concerned no progress. General discussion followed on achievements and progress on various issues. Malcolm brought up Penola bypass, child was killed. Keep on the front foot.

6.3 Nixon’s Mill Project - Eric explained after 4 years Stage 1 almost completed. Formed committee on signage with the two National Trusts, Hahndorf and Mount Barker. Early new year, close to finish. Phil showed photo of the Mill. Tony said many photo’s on Local Wiki.

6.4 Parking - No action.

6.5 Marketing/Community/Liaison/Networking - Rick has application from Hall Committee for $10,000 contribution to Entrance Statement. Rick thanked officers for smooth transition. Praised Bruce, very lucky to have Bruce with his military experience. Ann difficult to replace, Jean is fantastic. Good support from Jim and Eric. We should congratulate ourselves.

7. Reports

7.1 Financial - Total funds $4267, $800 held for Nixon’s Mill. Can meet insurance requirements.

7.2 Entrance Statement - Final plans, engineers report, contract signed with Palma’s lawyers. Jeff will bring copy of plans to next meeting. Action Jeff

7.3 Council Matters - Bald Hills Interchange, no reduction in Hahndorf traffic yet. Council boundaries, Kavel new boundaries. Free up Heritage approval by Council, Jeff going to forum with Minister Rau on 21 September. Will report back. Action Jeff Tony says National Trust opposes changes. Path to Beerenberg starting soon.

7.4 Planning/Heritage - Jean presented public notice in Courier re opening up IGA carpark. Jean will track when it comes to DAP. Action Jean Phil mentions increased traffic, safety issues. Harold thinks it’s essential. Jeff supported the carpark to be opened up twice, 400 signatures in support last time.

7.5 Digital Progress Facebook/Wiki - No action

7.6 Village Voice - Excellent printing, lifted VV up.

8. General Business

8.1 Tour Down Under 2017 Community Grant - Jim got quotes, Ann submitted, waiting for result.HahH

8.2 Speaker/Agenda for September 2016 AGM - As above

9. Other Business

9.1 Remembrance Day Speaker - Ann following up. Eric says will invite attendees to come to Institute for scones and coffee.

9.2 Sausage Sizzle/Entrance Statement & HCA Barbecue - On hold until October meeting. Mike suggests summer barbecue on Academy lawns is a better idea. Harold commented that Lantern festival was an opportunity lost. Tony suggested talking to the Academy about external events. Jim mentioned Kris Kindle market as a possibility.

Jim brought up Bald Hills interchange, much quicker and safer to get to Hahndorf. Can we write to the Department of Transport and suggest signage ‘Hahndorf via Littlehampton’. Add to next agenda. Action Jean

Thank you letter to Sally Paech for contribution to Nixon’s Mill. Action Eric, Jim

Harold brought up problems with certain Traders, asked to be minuted, and encouraged them to meet staff commitments and food standards. Young people have few ways to deal with pay problems. Margaret asked what was available; Harold discussed the Court of Arbitration. Ice is also a problem, we should all be concerned.
