Kym Dean Afford - Visual Artist

Self taught artist in sculpture and caricature.
Caricaturist to both The Chronicle and The Stock journal during the ‘70’s and early ‘80s.  During this period explored and developed wood and steel sculpture, following my nose through rubbish dumps for found pieces.
I developed welded figures in direct welded bronze after Nathan Cabbot Hale of America.  I remain an individual here using this method.
I had my own foundry and have cast bronzes for commissions.

Vale Kym Afford

(Extract from 'The Courier' 6 May 2015)

Well-known Mt Barker artist Kym Afford was remembered by family and friends at a celebration service yesterday (Tuesday).

A long-time writer, painter, sculptor and campaigner on environmental issues, Mr Afford passed away last Wednesday, April 29, after a battle with a brain tumor.  He died at peacefully home, with family and his dog at his side.

A celebration of Mr Afford's life was held at Kleeman Funerals on Tuesday, where family and friends wore their favorite colors to reflect his passion for art, his family and the environment.

In recognition of his love of a good yarn, many gathered at the Barker Hotel following the service to share their stories over a drink.

Mr Afford is survived by wife Carole and children Megan and Scott and their families.
