The Palmer Project

In 2001, Adelaide sculptor Greg Johns bought a former sheep grazing property at Palmer in the rain shadow of the Mount Lofty Ranges, about 70 km East of Adelaide.  This property now has two main aims: the display of contemporary works of sculpture, and ecological rehabilitation.  It is steadily evolving as a microcosm of the issues that relate art and environmental sustainability, - part of the challenge facing all humanity.

The 2014 Palmer Sculpture Biennial

The 2014 Biennial will be open to the public in March.  It will feature works from 24 artists from SA and interstate.  It will be opened on Sunday 8th March at 2 pm by Dr Christine Nicholls of Flinders University, and at 4 pm there will be a Music Event featuring The Yearlings, Carla Lippus & "Ted" Pederson, Andrew Allanson, John Francis and Kelly Menhennett.  After that, the Biennial will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays (12.00 to 4 pm) and Saturdays and Sundays (11 am to 6 pm) until Sunday March 23rd.  The Palmer Sculpture Landscape is at 372 Davenport Road, 3.5 km from the Hotel at Palmer.

Biennial exhibitions commenced at the Landscape in 2004.  They include emerging, mid career and established artists, with diverse styles of practice represented.  A distinguished artist is also invited to participate.  The exhibitions are organised on the basis of artist goodwill and involvement.  Artists visit the site and respond to that experience, enabling a range of contemporary sculptural expression with works which complement rather than compete with the enigmatic landscape.  Other exhibitions and events are also held from time to time.
