NIERE, Mr (//-//). Apparently a former army officer. To Bendigo Vic mid-1850s, where he worked on the goldfields (Biog; Frank Cusack Bendigo – the German chapter p193). Did Niere (Von De Niere?) return to SA where he was Lutheran Day School teacher at Lobethal and then Hahndorf in the 1860s?

PIENING, Johann (14/1/1835-21/5/1888). Died Norwood SA. Dealer; Adelaide (East Tce), then Chaff merchant; Edwardstown. m 12/2/1867, Caroline nee Haverland.

POPHAM, Mrs WH nee Esther VANT/VENT (//c1827-3/9/1860). Born Plumstead Common, Kent, England. Died Gawler SA. Wife of Dr WH Popham, who came to SA 1853 Neptune. His family transferred to the John F Moller at Cape Town, because the ship’s water made passengers ill (Observer 18/2/1854 p70a, 25/3/1854 p115e).

POPHAM, Francis William Home (//c1848-27/1/1903). Born at sea in the English Channel. Died Victor Harbor SA (of Gawler). Surgeon; Gawler. Anglican. m (1) 5/11/1874 St George Gawler, Julia Louisa nee CLARKE (//c1852-10/6/1890) Died Gawler SA. m (2) 23/7/1891 St Luke Adelaide, Ann nee Clindening (nb).
