Captain: EC KROSS - ‘A fatal accident occurred on board to a child, when off the Cape of Good Hope, in consequence of some passengers removing the covering of the hatch during a gale, which falling ‘tween decks unfortunately came in contact with a child, who died from the injuries it sustained’ (SA Register 1/12/1856).
