Autumn TreesThe Cedars at Hahndorf, home of the renowned Australian artist Sir Hans HEYSEN (1877 - 1968), continues to gain acknowledgement as one of the country's most intact and best preserved historic homes. Indeed, it remains one of South Australia's unique heritage treasures.  The famous chalet style studio has recently been identified as the Nation’s oldest surviving purpose built artist’s studio (1912) while the homestead has a grace and charm that speaks of the style of a bygone era.  The homestead welcomes visitors to enjoy the  beautiful sights and history of Sir Hans Heysen.

Dining RoomAll visitors are welcome to come and experience the special ambience of this interesting and lovely property.  You can visit Hans’ studio, the Heysen home and garden and hear stories of the family, returning to the shop where books, paintings, cards etc are available, viewing Nora Heysen’s studio (out of 8 children, Nora was the only one who became an artist) and perhaps relaxing in a corner of Nora Heysen’s Studio nearby tearoom with a ‘cuppa’.  You can take an historic walk through the acres where there are explanatory podiums of Hans’ work, view the replanting of trees, sculptures, special dams and much more ... have a picnic in the garden ... generally “a lovely day”!

Trees Please! Inc. is also involved in The Cedars property and has the aim to protect the native bush and to re-vegetate the area with local native trees and shrubs.
