"Zimmerer-Werkzeichen = Carpenter’s markings or carpentry symbols"  This article provides a visuals of the numerous 'carpenters marks'  found on red gum beams in homes, attics & barns in the Friedrichstadt, Paechtown, Hahndorf & Blakiston area.  It then provides a comparison of the many homes in the Tangermünde area which share the same symbols, still visible after 260 years.

Mit römanischen Zahlen, und zwar beginnt man links und nummeriert fortlaufend nach rechts =

  • Using Roman numerals, starting from the left and numbering consecutively to the right.

Die Verbandshölzer der Binder erhalten außer der römischen Zahl noch. Stiche in der Welse, daß alle Hölzer.

  • The structural timbers of the truss, in addition to the Roman numeral, also receive notches in the web so that all the timbers……
