The Haw River Ballroom

The Haw River Ballroom Sign at night (Credit: Jacob Lenz)The Haw River Ballroom is a music venue located in Saxapahaw, NC in the former Dye House of Saxapahaw's Historic Cotton Mill. In addition to live music, it features weddings and special events, theater, classes, conferences, lectures, show choir, and dancing. It typically hosts four or five events per week including weekly events, such as Movies at the Mill, and featured artists, such as The Be Good Tanyas, Heartless Bastards, and Ben Gibbard. In terms of layout, the ballroom has three levels and includes a riverside deck, a full service stage and sound system, and a concessions bar and coffee shop named Cup 22. It's extremely intimate in its size and historic detail, and its location, only minutes from Chapel Hill, makes it an attractive venue. Haw River also uses solar and geothermal power, rare for a concert venue and certainly unique in its small carbon footprint. It can hold approximately 700 people at capacity and is a "must attend" for local concertgoers. It promises a unique experience of old art and architecture with a modern music or thematic flair. Grayson Currin from The Indy called it "the most elegant and interesting nonmunicipal performance space in the state" and a "brilliant work of art."
