The Mellow Mushroom is a restaurant located in Burlington, North Carolina that is famous for its one-of-a-kind pizza, amazing beer collection, and mellow atmosphere. Originally opened by three students from Georgia Tech in 1974, the first Mellow Mushroom was intended to satisfy the needs of college students. This is reflected in the food choices. This is ironic, since the Mellow Mushroom in Burlington is located near Elon University, which is home to as many as 5,000 students, making it a perfect option for a Friday night. The restaurant attracts many students by hosting a trivia night every Wednesday at 8pm and by bringing in local bands to play live every thursday night at 9pm. Not to mention, the Mellow Mushroom has over 50 different types of beer in their full bar and many other specialty drinks, such as the "Mellow Mochatini". The restaurant is also very family friendly. Every Monday at Mellow Mushroom Burlington kids eat free. Even though it is famous for its pizza, it has a full menu that includes soups, salads, calzones, and sandwiches. A Gluten-Free menu is available on line for those with allergies or prefer gluten-free products. The restaurant has also released a low-calorie menu named "the skinny shroom" to offer lighter choices. With a unique and colorful atmosphere, the Mellow Mushroom is quite different from any restaurant you have ever been to before. Additionally, they offer comfortable outdoor seating and TV's which are placed all around the restaurant. There is also free wifi available throughout the restaurant. Even though the Mellow Mushroom does not deliver, it is available for take-out orders. Catering is an option newly made available by Mellow Mushroom with a 24 hour minimum notice. The Mellow Mushroom is a great place to sit down, have a great lunch or dinner, and feel completely mellow the entire time.
