About:

The North Carolina Zoo was founded in 1974 and has recently celebrated 40 years of business. The Zoo is located in Asheboro, NC in the Uwharrie Mountains. The Zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. The Zoo is home to over 1,500 animals representing more than 225 species and 53,000 plants. Most animal exhibits focus on habitats from Africa and North America. The Zoo works extremely hard and prides itself in conserving and protecting animals and their habitats.

The North Carolina Zoo is a perfect place for a family outing. There are many activities and events for children and adults including: face painting, five miles of walking trails, artwork, and live music. The Zoo also offers a summer camp for children so that they can interact and learn about animals and their environments. New things added this year to the Zoo are “BUGS An Epic Adventure” and “RIO the 4-D Experience”, which have extremely high ratings. After a long day at the Zoo there are multiple options for dining. The Wilderness Café, Junctions Spring Café, and the Crocodile Café are sit down restaurants located inside the Zoo. In addition there are multiple snack stands offering drinks, ice cream, hot dogs, pizza, cotton candy and lots of other options. The North America Picnic Site and the African Picnic Site are also available to visitors. The NC Zoo is a wonderful place that everyone should visit!
