Description:

Across Alamance County in North Carolina, there are numerous walking and nature trails to visit. Some trails include Haw River Land Trail, Shallow Ford Natural Area, and the Great Bend Park at Glencoe. Along with the nature trails, there are many areas of recreation in these parks. Most of the parks in Alamance County have picnic tables, rivers open for water activities, and restroom facilities.

The Haw River is a 70 mile-long trail surrounded by water and mountains north of Greensboro. A vast variety of wildlife exists in the Haw River region including the Blue Heron, beavers, deer, otters, and many others. Some main trails are found in the Haw River area and they are the Haw River Trail and the Haw River Wine Trail. There are four award-winning wineries located within the Haw River Wine Trail, and the River Trail provides land and paddle trails for visitors.

Shallow Ford Natural Park is a 190 acre park that includes five miles of hiking trails and is a part of the Haw River/Mountain to Sea Trail. Another park that is a part of the Haw River/Mountain to Sea Trail is the Great Bend Park at Glencoe; this park features 30 acres of wooded areas and trails, fishing areas, and picnicing zones. Another newer facility is the Lake Mackintosh Park and Marina, located in Burlington. Covering over 1100 acres and featuring a 100 mile shoreline, it is a great area to fish and walk around.
