There's a very long warehouse at 1501 Buena Vista that originally served as a Del Monte warehouse, is now being used as a warehouse by different companies, and starting in 2016 will become "Star Harbor" - a mixed-use development built by Tim Lewis Communities.
This SF Business Times article has all the details, but here are the key points:
- "The existing building was built in 1927 and was used as a warehouse to store salmon from Alaska."
- "It still operates as a storage space for various beverage and consumer product brands, which will continue using the building until construction commences"
- The 250,000 sq ft warehouse will have "380 housing units and 30,000 square feet of retail. The residential portion will be a mix of apartment, loft and townhouse-style units and include 55 affordable units."
Tim Lewis Communities also donated $2mn to fund the building of a park nearby: Jean Sweeney Park. There's also a park across the street from the warehouse: Littlejohn Park.
This development is right next to another building project - 1551 Buena Vista.
