Icarus Fountain Outside of Youth and Shelter Services Building

The Icarus Fountain in Ames is located outside the Youth and Shelter Services at the corner of 5th St and Kellog Ave.

The fountain is based off of a greek myth where Daedalus, the father of Icarus, angers the ruler of Crete Island, King Minos. Daedalus, however, is a prominent inventor and so fashions pairs of wings for Icarus and himself. When they are making their escape,  Icarus keeps flying higher and higher, despite his father telling him not to. As Icarus gets closer to the sun, the wax on his wings melts releasing the feathers, causing him to plummet to his untimely death.
