Andrew P. "Andy" Buchsbaum is vice president of conservation action for the National Wildlife Federation, overseeing NWF’s regional and state conservation work, field offices, and relationship with the organization’s 49 state-level affiliates.

He was promoted to that position in November 2014, after serving for many years as regional executive director of the National Wildlife Federation’s Great Lakes Regional Center in Ann Arbor, and interim executive director of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund, NWF's 501(c)4 lobbying arm. He co-founded and for seven years co-chaired “Healing Our Waters – Great Lakes Coalition,” the primary non-governmental coalition championing Great Lakes restoration. He is a member of the board of directors for the Michigan-based Great Lakes Fisheries Trust.

Buchsbaum also is an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan Law School, teaching courses in environmental and Great Lakes law and policy.

Prior to joining NWF, Buchsbaum was the senior attorney for the Midwest office of the National Environmental Law Center and the program director for the Public Interest Research Group in Michigan.

He is married to Cathy Fleischer, a professor of English education at Eastern Michigan University. They have two sons: Seth, 24, and Jesse, 20 (as of 2014). They live on the north side of Ann Arbor near the Leslie Science & Nature Center, where Buchsbaum previously served on the board of directors.

May 2014: Wins 2014 Michigan Green Leaders award, given by the Detroit Free Press. He is recognized for helping to secure $1.6 billion over 4 years in federal funding to improve the Great Lakes.

June 2010: Wins the C.D. “Buzz” Besadny Award for Fostering Great Lakes Partnerships – an award from the Great Lakes Fishery Commission.

2004: Co-founds “Healing Our Waters – Great Lakes Coalition,” a non-governmental coalition championing Great Lakes restoration.
