Obituary

A lifelong resident of Ann Arbor, died peacefully in the University of Michigan Hospital early in the morning of June 26, 2010, at age 84. The cause of death was a cancer of uncertain origin in the pleural cavity of her right lung, aggravated by a tenacious bacterial infection, which were both discovered six months previously during a routine checkup. Present at her death were her husband, Lyndon Welch, and her children; Judith Landecker of Helena, Montana, Angela Lenz of Pittsburgh, PA, and Joseph N. Welch II of Chicago, IL. Angela Lenz was accompanied by her husband, William, Joseph was accompanied by his wife, Deborah, and Judith was accompanied by her daughter, Amy Landecker of New York. Angela Welch was long active in memberships or as an officer in Ann Arbor, notably the Ann Arbor Art Association, Planned Parenthood, Ann Arbor Vassar Club, Michigan's Children's Aid Society, Huron Valley Child Guidance Clinic, Ann Arbor Civic Art Committee, Downtown Property Owners Association, Washtenaw County Jury Commission, Thrift Shop, Mu Phi Epsilon musical society, Salvation Army advisory board, Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary (founding member), Washtenaw Historical Society, the Ann Arbor City Club Caps for Kids program and many activities of the Republican party in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County and the State of Michigan. A small family funeral is being planned, to be followed by a Memorial Gathering on Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Women's City Club in Ann Arbor, 1830 Washtenaw Ave. In lieu of flowers, we suggest that donations to her memory be made to the Huron Valley Child Guidance Clinic (2940 Ellsworth Rd., Ypsilanti MI 48197 Tel. 734-971-9605) or your local Salvation Army post or a charity of your choice.
