This list of Ann Arbor's no longer existing restaurants provides capsule reviews and descriptions of the departed diners, struck out steak houses, bygone bakeries, and dearly beloved ex-donut shops of the local landscape.

- Armadillo Truck Stop and Country Club (On Washtenaw where Cottage Inn Cafe' was); an Andy Gulvezan production; first mechanical bull in the county (circa 1981)
- Arriba, where Maude's used to be; now Ruth's Chris Steakhouse after much remodeling
- Artisan Bistro at 640 Packard; the latest at that doomed location is Craft Breww City.
- The Athenian at 120 E Washington (circa 1975); Greek, "Fine food"
- Atlanta Bread Company at 640 Packard; the latest at that location is a Craft Breww City.
- Azure 625 Hilton...in the ring around the mall...that used to be Jojos. Middle Eastern/North African/Fusion

- Bacchus Garden, on State where Ashley's is now, opened in the mid 70s. Owner Bill Lagos' second restaurant in the same location, the first being Stadium Restaurant.
- Bagel Factory on South U. Home of the fragel, and the I Bake For Jake sticker. (1970s-1990s). Demolished, but there's a Tim Horton's there now.
- Bar-B-Que King, 720 N Main (1975)
- Bella Ciao, on W Liberty; now Grange Kitchen and Bar
- Bell's Cafe The original, not to be confused with the Korean version (Bell's Diner) on West Stadium. Located at 221 North Main, listed in the 1988 Polk Directory. Open 6 am to 2 pm. Cheap breakfasts, Good Service, Terrible coffee! Now Broken Egg.
- Best Steak House, 217 S State (1975)
- Betsy Ross, at the State Street entrance to Nickels Arcade
- Bon Juice, on William, predecessor to Shahrayar
- Arriba short lived Mexican restaurant that took over Maude's spot on 4th, which is now Ruth's Chris Steakhouse
- Bev's Caribbean Kitchen Packard at Woodlawn; followed by a hot dog stand; Originally Lucky Jim's Fish & Chips. Last seen as Pocai.
- Bicycle Jim's, 1301 S. University; now University of Michigan Kinesiology.
- Bill Knapp's three Ann Arbor locations were the hangouts for the Lawrence Welk crowd for a long time. The one on Carpenter is now Palm Palace and the one on Stadium is Zingerman's Roadhouse.
- Bill's Coffee Cup, 201 E. Liberty; was Mallis' Coffee Cup until Mallis' opened Steak Out on Liberty & Stadium, now Cloverleaf, which used to be Cloverleaf Lunch (formerly the Cloverleaf Dairy Bar) at 1015 Broadway -- that location is now Northside Grill
- Bill's Market, on Packard near State, where Biggby Coffee and Grillcheezerie were most recently; vacant 2020.
- Bimbo's, 114 E. Washington, where Arbor Brewing was last seen.
- Bimbo's on the Hill, 3411 Washtenaw Ave., where Paesano's is now
- Bird of Paradise, former Ashley Street, then Main Street.
- Blimpy Burger, on S. Division; demolished for student housing in 2013; relocated to next to the Fleetwood Diner on Ashley St

- Chubb's South State St student dining hall in early 20th century.
- Cleveland's Gill & Grill: 311 Main St. where The Jolly Pumpkin was last seen
- Continental For anyone who worked on State in the late 1980s, the Continental was the lunch spot.
- The Corner House, corner of Thayer and Washington. A tearoom that closed in the mid 60's.
- Count of Anti-Pasto Corner of S. University and Church, above Good Time Charley's. Either late 70s or early 80s disco-era restaurant with great pasta and pizza. Used to be quite popular and mysteriously closed.
- Cracked Crab, 112 W. Washington, where Cafe Zola is now
- Curtis Chicken in the Rough S. Main Street, Very nice cafeteria, inexpensive, Greek-owned.
- D'Amato's, 102 S 1st St
- Damon's, closed in 2013; sports bar and barbeque east of Briarwood Mall.
- De Long's Barb-be-cue Pit, 314 Detroit St. Became Mysore Woodlands, which became Teriyaki Time.
- Delphine's in the Sheraton University Inn on Boardwalk near I-94.
- Del Rio, Inc., 122 W. Washington, now part of Grizzly Peak.
- Delta Restaurant, 640 Packard Rd; Greek food and pizzeria; later Happy's Pizza; now Craft Breww City.
- Denny's at Liberty and Division above Community Newscenter. The first eatery here was called the Pan-Tree.
- Depot House, 416 S Ashley in the old Ann Arbor Railroad depot (1975)
- The Derby Bar on Ann
- Diamond Head Cafe in Kerrytown
- Dinersty on Liberty across from the Federal Building
- Dino's on South University Where Steve's Lunch was across from Village Corner (Breakfast). Now Rich JC.
- Don Carlos briefly on South Main--originally on Detroit's west side. Until real Mexican food came to Washtenaw County, their sincronizada was one of the better Mexican dishes around
- Donburi, on State where Totoro is now (replaced by Hinodae)
- Dooley's, 310 Maynard (now Score Keepers)
- Drake's, 709 N. University. Now a Breugger's Bagels.
- Dunkin Donuts, 300 S. Main (now a Starbucks)
- Dynasty Buffet, Chinese buffet, closed 2011; in Glencoe Crossing.
- Earl of Sandwich, N. State near Liberty. Previously Einstein's Bagels. Next All About Blue, a sports clothing store.
- Eastern Accents - 214 S. 4th Ave. Asian bakery and cafe. 1996-2013. Now part of Mongomery Houze.
- Eatos Burritos, in the Tally Hall food court
- Eden Foods - have I got that right? - on Maynard where Madras Masala is now. Hippie buffet and coffee shop.
- Einstein Bros Bagels, S. State Street; place was vacant for over a year before Earl of Sandwich went in.
- Elevation Burger - 529 E Liberty St and 3365 Washtenaw Ave
- Elixir Vitae, Maynard St, across from Nickels Arcade. Closed 2019; a previous store on E Liberty St closed earlier, replaced by Roos Roast.
- Escoffier, Thayer (Before Escoffier took over the space on Thayer in the Bell Tower Hotel, it was called the Stage Door, going after the theater crowd from Hill and Lydia Mendelssohn and Power Center).
- Espresso Royale, multiple locations. The chain closed in 2020. Coffee, pastries, sit down with wifi and do your homework.
- eve, in Kerrytown; run by Eve Aronoff, who started Frita Batidos as eve was closing
- Everett's Drive In, 2280 W. Stadium Blvd. Have a "California burger" (with avocado).

- Famiglia Pizza, Corner of State and Williams, a chain originating in NY, mid-90s, serving NY-style pizza made with water imported from NYC
- Famous Hamburger on Plymouth Road; replaced by Cardamom Restaurant
- Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour Briarwood Mall across from the movies. Guy next door to me at Bursley in 1981 used to work there on weekends.
- Fat Philly's and Burgers
- Fifth Avenue Cafe at 301 E Liberty, first floor; opened in 1997
- Firehouse Subs on E William Street, opened in 2013, closed in 2014
- Flaming Pit Barbecue
- Flat Top Grill, stir-fry at Washtenaw and Huron Parkway, closed 2013
- Flim Flam, diner in the Plymouth Road Mall; breakfasts, eclairs. closed 2011; now the Songbird Cafe
- Food Where Pizza Bob's Uptown/Mr. Spots is now - was a restaurant named "Food." At least, that's all their sign said.

- Golden Falcon, 314 S Fourth Ave (1975); "more expensive, drinks also, entertainment"
- The Gondola, 1322 Washtenaw, Ypsilanti (1950s-1960s); Italian food. "Ypsilanti's finest restaurant", says the matchbook cover
- Goodnight Gracies (????-~2010?) 301 W Huron St, Ann Arbor, MI 48103, United States now "The Last Word"
- Govinda's kitchen was in the Continental's location on South State Street - vegetarian Indian cuisine run by Krishnas. Before Govinda's this was the Virginian restaurant.
- Grand Traverse Pie Company on East Liberty (2012-2013), where @Burger used to be; the store on Zeeb in Baxter's Plaza is still open
- Gypsy, an Andy Gulvezan production; followed by Armadillo Truck Stop and Country Club at the same location
- Gypsy Cafe in the space where the Peoples' Food Coop's Cafe Verde is now-- had live music, secret hideaways, and a very lovely vibe. Late 90s.
- Great Lakes Steak Company Corner of State and Ellsworth, south of I-94. This is where Dick Schubach and team got their start in the late 70s or early 80s. Later became the Great Lakes Shipping Company.

- Hot N’ Now at 2300 Washtenaw. Was briefly Ice Scapes and Momie Soul Food after it closed in the mid 90s.
- Howard Johnson at 2600 Washtenaw
- Ideal Restaurant, "Steaks and chops our specialty", 117 E Washington St
- Indian Summer, State St. (Also known as Govinda's -- and much earlier had been known as The Virginian. The Indian Summer sign is preserved inside the Produce Station, above the produce.)
- Jason's, where Mr. Greeks is now, on State St. Owned by Koreans in the 90's. Smoking section in basement. Great sandwiches and ice cream. Great peach ice cream, BLT w/avocado.
- Jefferson Market on Jefferson. Retro styled convenience store with a gourmet lunch/dinner counter in the back. Replaced by Jefferson Market and Cakery, a cake bakery.
- Joe’s Star Lounge
- Joe Joe's next to the People's Food co-op, run by a very sweet Greek woman named Irene and her husband, who I believe was Joe Joe. When they had leftover ripe bananas, you could fill a bag for a buck. It's now No Thai.
- Jolly Tiger 2080 W. Stadium Blvd. Originally Sambo's Restaurant (chain) in the 1960's, then rebranded as Jolly Tiger in the early 1970's. Oddly, it was changed back to Sambo's in the early 1980's rebranded (again!) with a character named "Family Sam," a friendly senior citizen chef. Now Holidays Restaurant.
- JoJos in the ring around the mall 625 Hilton

- Kales Waterfall, Jimmy Kales, prop. -- he also owned the Whitmore Lake Tavern. Kales Waterfall was on W.Stadium Blvd. It became Lim's of Ann Arbor, and then called Sze-Chuan West; the building was torn down in 2012
- Kamakura, 611 Church; Japanese food (1975) run by Jim Uchida
- Kana Korean home-style where the Pringle's auditorium is now, later took over the former Roundtable spot on West Liberty, which is now Pacific Rim by Kana.
- Kav's Cafe in Kerrytown (Kosmo Deli now has their former space)
- Kaya Sushi on Ellsworth Road in western Ypsilanti Township
- Kentucky Fried Chicken on West Stadium; there's a location open in Pittsfield Township
- Kerby's Koney Island at the Briarwood Mall, and also at 1760 Whitaker Road; the nearest open location is in Brighton
- Kerrytown Bistro in the spot in Kerrytown that was subsequently occupied by eve: the restaurant
- King of Queens, a coney island in the Colonade

- La Pinata At Stadium and Liberty, now the site of Bank of Ann Arbor. Former location of Fowler's Pancacke House. Margaritas swirling in a lemonade dispenser, just like a Woolworth's counter. A waiting list out the door, for they didn't take reservations. Location became UpSouth, Southern style cookery, but that failed quickly

- La Zamaan, beloved for its karnabeet

- Latdior, 325 East Hoover, Ann Arbor - Senegalese restaurant near the old Purchase Radio. Closed circa 1996.
- Lee's Chop Suey, 160 E Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti; opened in the 1950s, the second Chinese restaurant in the area.
- Leo Ping’s On South State near Hill in the 1940s, moved to West Liberty. Cantonese Cuisine. "Shrimp and Eggs Cantonese" a dish to die for.
- Leopold Bloom's Upscale restaurant opened by Ned Duke in the mid to late 70s. On Liberty between Main and Ashley where Bella Ciao was later.
- Leopold Bros., S. Main Street, started out just beer then offered food for a while before moving to Colorado.
- Liberty Inn 100 block West Liberty
- Lim's of Ann Arbor on Stadium, now called Sze-Chuan West
- Ling Lee, 407 N Fourth (1975)
- Loma Linda On Broadway next to the University Motel, and across from St. Vincent De Paul Store. Building is still there, but it hasn't been open for decades.
- Long John Silvers, now Tuptim, on Washtenaw
- Lovin' Spoonful, an ice cream shop on S Main St.
- Lucky Jim's, Woodlawn at Packard, host to several place since. Fish and chips, owned by Kingsley Amis's ex-wife Hilary Amis.
- Lum's Plymouth Rd @ Upland Dr, family dining, later Cafe Marie.
- Lunsford Bakery, known for its cinnamon rolls.

- Magic Pan at Briarwood near Sears. Later became Ruby Tuesday and is now California Pizza Kitchen.
- Mahek, Indian buffet on E Washington St

- Manali Cafe, Indian. On Washington at 5th where the Blue Nile expansion is now

- Manikas, S. Main Street, very good simple food, Greek, I miss it still; Nick Manikas now operates the Classic Cup Cafe on Jackson Road in Scio Township; Shalimar now occupies the S. Main Street location.
- Mantels at the Briarwood Hilton. "We'll take you back to the good times, when elegance and gracious dining were savored... and expected."

- Mountain Jack's near Westgate, a steakhouse, with wine on tap

- Mysore Woodlands a vegetarian Indian place that replaced DeLong's BBQ pit.
- Nikko's Pizzeria at the foot of Broadway. You would always get a cheery "Enjoy your pizza, OK?" with your pie

- Not Another Cafe, South University at Forest, late 90s

- Olga's, 205 S. State, (Before Olga's on the corner of State and Washington, the restaurant was a hamburger joint, part of a short-lived chain called Gino's. Named after a Pennsylvania football player
- Old German, 120 W. Washington, now is Grizzly Peak Operated for decades by the late Bud Metzger; rebuilt after a fire in 1975.
- Omega Pizza, a favorite of Hill dorm dwellers
- Orange Julius corner Forest and South U ground floor of U Towers. Later this was a Coney Island place called King of Queens.
- Oyster Bar and Spaghetti Machine very high quality food, in the spot that is now Good Night Gracies
- Oyster Bay Cafe, circa 1908 on S State St
- Oliver´s circa 1960's. A Laurel and Hardy themed place with 2 or 3 elongated picnic tables (40') and featuring especially roasted & salted peanuts-in-the-shell. For a small child, enthralling that you could throw your peanut shells on the floor (undoubtedly why the memory survives so long).
- Packard Pub at 640 Packard
- The Pagoda (Cantonese East side of South Main St next door to Manikas (now Shalimar) Terrible Chinese food, everything covered with a thick gravy.
- Pan Tree, Liberty near Division above Liberty Plaza and the former Community Newscenter
- Papa John's at the corner of Huron and Division
- Papa Romano's corner Washington and Fifth - you could always get a discount coupon so we called them Papa Coupono's. Very good pizza, and the coupons never expired, so you could get a pizza very cheaply, years after the coupon was issued.
- The Parthenon - 226 South Main. Now occupied by Lena, a Cuban inspired restaurant. Cafe Habana, now named Habana, is located downstairs in this new restaurant and moved from it's Washington street location.
- The Parrot on S. State St; succeeded by Charcoal House, now Ashley's
- Passport Restaurant and Lounge, in a building that once housed a Chi-Chi's on South State St near Ellsworth.
- Pastabilities in Kerrytown in the spot that is now Sparrow Gym
- Pastiche in Kerrytown in the spot that is now Sparrow Gym
- Pawley's in the spot that is now West End Grill

- Pizzeria Uno, S. University (Started out as the Village Bell (a branch of the Pretzel Bell) after the Division Street dryline ordinance was rescinded, and likker could be served on that side of campus.
- Pretzel Bell, 120 E. Liberty; legions of alumni had their first legal beer there
- Prickly Pear, S Main St downtown. Opened in 1991, closed in 2020. Southwestern food and margaritas.
- Purple Pickle, a deli on the alley side of where Arbor Brewing Company is now; Iggy Pop worked there

- Quality Bar briefly where the Quality Bakery was, now Palio's
- Quality Bakery, noted for its long johns, on S Main St; now Palio's
- Quarter Bistro, closed 2019
- Rax Roast Beef, upscale fast-food at South University and Forest. 80s. Afterwards, a campus version of Miki.
- Red Bull 2222 Hogback, it is now Yotsuba
- Red's Rite Spot, William, where Tower Plaza is now; Frank's is there now
- Richard's Follies, 1113 E Huron, 1975. "Play pinball and win a sandwich".
- Rio Wraps on E William, which never really replaced The Burro in that spot as a go-to place for Mexican food
- The Round Table, West Liberty (a legendary townie place -- a favorite of judges, lawyers and bankers, but also visited regularly by a few academics from campus. Presided over by Evelyn Stack, who had been a waitress at the restaurant's former location, on West Huron (where a parking lot is now)
- Road Runner in the ring around the mall...that used to be Jojos.
- Robbie's at the Ice House is now Live at PJs.
- Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory on E Liberty St.
- Roy’s Squeeze-In, next to the Beer Vault on Detroit Street, across from the Farmers Market. A tiny hole in the wall burger joint, with a sign outside that said "Capacity 5000 (8 at a time)." For those who miss the greasy minimalism of Roy's, there's still one in Ypsilanti (best place around to feel like you've stepped into an Edward Hopper painting) and one in Milan
- Rubiyat now the location of PJ's live. Originally located on South Main, where Real Seafood is now.

- Saco Taco, on William, at Thompson, in a former gas station (whose picture is on the AADL's signs site). "Peppy's/Biff's" was in there for awhile, also. For the last 20 years or so, the restaurant there has had 2 or 3 different Korean names, including Hur's; more recently Maru.

- Stadium Tavern Basically a big white house, with gas pumps at one time. Across Stadium from La Pinata was this funky old townie bar. Way back in the day, when the bar first opened, it was in the country, on the outskirts of town. Third shift from the Pantree used to go there for drinks after their shift.
