Located in downtown Ann Arbor at 220 E Ann St., the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum offers more than 250 interactive exhibits that spark the imagination of over 250,000 visitors every year.

Timeline: Hands-On Museum

  • 2015-May-4 The Hands-On Museum appears on the May 4, 2015 agenda of the Ann Arbor City Council in a Resolution to approve a $300,021 contract with the museum for the Wind Generator Project. The contract is for education and outreach services for the wind generator grant project.  The contract with the museum would complete the outreach and education portion of a grant received by the City from the Department of Energy (DOE) and accepted by Council as part of its Resolution R-13-015.

Admission is for the entire day, priced as follows:

  •         Adults (18+): $12.50
  •         Children (2 years-old and older): $12.50
  •         Babies (under the age of 2): Free

The Museum is part of both the Association of Science & Technology Centers (ASTC) and the Association of Children's Museums (ACM). Please call to find out the discounts for members of other ASTC and ACM museums.

Family Membership (for one year): $80; Family Plus Membership: $100; Family Plus Premium: $150

The Museum hosts birthday parties, and does programming for school field trips.

Outreach Program

It's Science on Wheels! We roll up, roll in, and set up -- taking the mystery out of science and presenting fun, inquiry-based programs directly to the students in your classroom, library, festival, or youth center! If you can't bring your class or group to the Museum, let us bring the Museum to you!

Our programs provide exciting learning opportunities that engage all students. All programs address objectives outlined in the Michigan Curriculum Framework and include pre- and post-visit activities.

Location

The Museum entrance is on Ann Street, between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue. The nearest city lot is the Ann Ashley structure, and there is free parking on weekends at the county courthouse.

The building is next to the Fire Station, and part of the museum building is the old fire station.

Depending on your kids and your taste in food, you might visit these nearby restaurants. The Front Desk has an extended list of family-friendly restaurants.

  • Cafe Verde - hot bar, sandwiches, salad bar, plus coop food; you can buy a single organic banana from the People's Food Coop adjoining and eat it in the cafe if that's all you need.
  • Zingerman's Deli
  • Farmer's Market - Wednesday and Saturday markets during the summer have lots of choices for snack; open til early afternoon
