Needham previously worked as managing producer for AnnArbor.com, overseeing the publication's entertainment news. He was hired in mid-2009 after the owners of the former Ann Arbor News closed that business and launched a primarily online operation. Before that he was opinion editor at the Ann Arbor News, and had served as entertainment editor there for seven years. He joined the Ann Arbor News in 1996 as a copy editor, after working at other publications in southeast Michigan.
Needham lives in Ann Arbor's Water Hill neighborhood. He was formerly married to Dawn Riffenburg Needham, digital news editor at the Detroit News.
