Dos Hermanos -- download vcard
Mexican grocery in downtown Ypsi. An instant classic upon opening, in part due to being the only grocery in downtown Ypsi; in part because of their great tamales.
Hours: ? - 9pm |
Dos Hermanos market opened in June 2007, occupying a long-empty storefront in the strip on the western end of downtown Ypsilanti, next to Abe's Coney Island. The market is the second store owned by the Arreola brothers; their first, which includes a bakery, is located in Adrian.
The market carries a wide variety of food, including fresh fruits and vegetables, a meat counter, with some of the meat-cutting performed in house, dairy products, canned and dried beans, an assortment of dried peppers, breads and sweets from the Adrian bakery, and a hot bar featuring fresh, $1 tamales.
Upon opening, Dos Hermanos received an enthusiastic welcome from the community for bringing groceries to downtown Ypsi.
A lunch counter is open Fri-Sun 11a-3p.

It’s tough to go wrong, even with a language gap. Carnitas tacos — pork slow-cooked in lard — were delicious, with just the right amount of fat to add flavor without being greasy. My dining companion and I polished off three without realizing just how overfilled they are and barely had room for the rest of our order. At $1.50 each, this might be the best bargain in town.
