Ann Arbor's downtown, commingled with the University of Michigan Central Campus, is generally treated as the cultural and entertainment center of Washtenaw County. While retail businesses in the downtown area are limited - and have been since Briarwood pulled retailers out of the downtown in the late 1970s - the downtown's restaurants, theaters, and concert halls draw teeming hordes of suburbanites into Ann Arbor on summer evenings.
The Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority publishes a conceptual map of downtown's landmarks and major buildings: http://www.a2dda.org/downloads/WalkMap.pdf
