Frog Island Brewing is a project of David French and Mike O'Brien, started in 1995, and is one of an increasing number of Ypsilanti-based microbrew labels. Frog Island's beer is not currently brewed within the city, though French and O'Brien have made attempts to change that. In 2004-2005, they tried to set up shop in the old Ypsilanti Farm Bureau grain mill on Forest Street, but were foiled by the decaying condition of the buildings and the expense of bringing them up to compliance with city building and zoning requirements.
