Grace Shackman is a historian of local Ann Arbor places and people who has written numerous historically-oriented pieces for the Ann Arbor Observer and the Old West Side News beginning in the early 1980's.
A collection of these stories, under the title of Then and Now, is archived at the Ann Arbor District Library.
Shackman has authored three books on local history:
- Ann Arbor in the 19th Century: A Photographic History (2001)
- Ann Arbor in the 20th Century: A Photographic History (2002)
- Ann Arbor Observed: Selections from Then and Now (2006)
