Graduate Student Secession is an idea that has been put forth several times by graduate students at the University of Michigan — that graduate students should have their own student government. The all-graduate student government would be separate from, but equal to the Central Student Government. The idea was proposed in the 1970's, in 1998 and, most recently, in 2012. If the move were to happen, it would results in hundreds of thousands of dollars lost by CSG annually as CSG collects $7.19 per semester per student and, as of 2012, there were more than 15,000 graduate students enrolled at the University of Michigan.
