"Green Burial Conference:  Exploring Issues and Options" will be held on October 11, 2014 at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens.  Green burial is a growing trend that is attractive to many but how to achieve it remains illusive.  Learn about green burial options from local and national experts through panel discussion, presentation, and outdoor mock demonstration.   

This conference is your opportunity to think about questions such as: Do you or a loved one want your body to go back to the earth naturally?  Would you like this choice to be available in your local cemetery?   

To explore such questions and issues, Merilynne Rush, Ann Arbor-based green burial educator and home funeral advocate, is joined by experts from within and without the funeral industry.  Discover the full web of choices.  Learn the practicalities of how to do a natural burial; discuss current practices and what families want; and have the opportunity to network with professionals.   

Speakers include Charles Morris, President, Green Burial Council International, Mike Mitchell, licensed funeral director, Jack Goodnoe, landscape architect and cemetery planner and Barbara Lucas, producer and host of “The Green Room” on WEMU public radio and CTN television. 

Families, individuals, funeral directors, cemetery workers and environmentalists are invited.  As a bonus, A Will for the Woods, an award-winning green burial documentary chronicling one-man’s quest to leave a lasting legacy, will be shown Friday evening, October 10, at 7:30 pm with discussion to follow.
