Westhill, Harry It is with great sadness we report the passing of long time Ann Arbor resident, Harry Hiroshi Westhill. On November 3, 2010, Harry was struck by a vehicle and killed while crossing Carpenter Road in Ann Arbor. Born on July 21, 1926, in Lomita, CA to Kuratoaro and Karuko Naishioka, he spent his childhood in his parents' native land of Japan and also California. As an adult he moved to Chicago and eventually settled in Ann Arbor, where he Americanized his name. He resided in Ann Arbor for over 40 years. At the time of his death he was looking forward to a visit to California to enjoy the warm and sunny climate. Harry attended the University of Michigan and was a big school supporter and U of M fan. He was also very proud to be a U.S. citizen and was a great supporter of people serving, or who have served in the U.S. Military. Harry followed politics and current events. He worked for many years as a Realtor and Property Manager including with the Spaly Group. Harry was very active in the Ann Arbor Optimist Club and volunteered his time generously. Fluent in both English and Japanese, Harry held close his native culture and traditions. He is survived by a brother, Richard Nishioka, of Torrence, CA, a nephew, and many friends. A Celebration of Harry's Life will be held on Monday, November 15, at one of Harry's favorite Ann Arbor restaurants, Weber's, at 3050 Jackson Road from 4:30-7 p.m. All of Harry's many business associates and friends are welcome.
