Obituary

"Joe the Barber", age 80, passed away on Wedneday, Feb. 2, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at his side. Joe was born March 9, 1930 in Pellston, MI, son of Thomas and Katherine Huczek. He married Bernadine Hincka on January 29, 1955 in Rogers City, MI. Joe was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean War having served as a Crew Chief. He was awarded the Silver Star and five Bronze Stars. Joe owned and operated his own barber shop over 50 years, known as "Joe's Barber Shop". He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church of Ann Arbor. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, deer hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing and playing his harmonica. Joe described and referred to his family as "The Best", which included his children and grandchildren. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bernadine, his five children, Paula (Lincoln) Schoch, Steve (Kathey) Huczek, Ann (Paul) Lovett, Joe (Lisa) Huczek and Tom Huczek; his six grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, and Chad Schoch, Sophia and Conrad Lovett, and Alexis Huczek. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers. Family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m., with a rosary prayer at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb 7th at the Nie Family Funeral Home, Liberty Road Chapel, 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48103. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with visitation to begin at 9 a.m. until time of mass on Tuesday, Feb 8th at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 530 Elizabeth (at the corner of Kingsley and State St.), Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of Washtenaw County Veterans Honor Guard.
