Louis P. Ferris Jr., founder of Federated Capital Corporation (formerly Federated Financial Corporation of America), Federated Service Solutions, and The Good Shepherds acquired the Tuscola Saginaw Bay Railway (promptly renamed the Great Lakes Central Railroad) in March 2006. Great Lakes Central Railroad is the longest railroad in the Great State of Michigan as well as the only regional railroad.

Ferris also owned the Bello Vino Marketplace grocery store in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

He always made sure to support the community, donating to the local Police Department and working with the townships to help establish and expand his charity, The Good Shepherds, whose mission is to feed those in need in our community in an effort to help end food insecurity. He also strongly believed in supporting the Salvation Army of Southeast Detroit.

Ferris passed away in April 2022. Though his legacy lives on through the businesses he grew in the community and his unwavering support of conquering hunger and improving animal welfare. He was a brilliant businessman and dealmaker. He built a very successful leasing company before diversifying his businesses into many different areas. There was no challenge he could not achieve and his hard work and perseverance stood out to all that crossed his path.
