Mack Pool is a public indoor pool at Ann Arbor Open School at Mack in Ann Arbor. It is operated by the City of Ann Arbor; the Ann Arbor Public Schools also use the pool.

Located at 715 Brooks Street, Mack Indoor Pool offers lap swimming; open swimming and family playtime in the attached tots' pool; American Red Cross swimming lessons; Masters competitive training program; Dawn Ducks early morning swim with aerobics and socializing; synchronized swim team; and private party rentals at competitive rates.

The pool provides handicap access and free parking. Daily admission or seasonal passes are available.

During an economic downturn in 2009, the city considered closing the pool due to budget cuts. At that time, there was about a $100,000 shortfall between what it costs to run the pool each year and the revenues it takes in. A community task force was formed and met several times, ultimately recommending strategies for keeping the pool open.

Mack Pool: Timeline

• 2015-06-01 Mack Pool appears on the June 1, 2015 agenda of the Ann Arbor City Council in connection with a $183,800 contract with Maniaci/Watt, LLC for interior ceiling and trim painting at the indoor facility. Because the contract requres a mid-year transfer of funds after approval of the fiscal year budget, approval of the contract will, under the City Charter, need an eight-vote majority on the 11-member council. According to the staff memo accompanying the resolution, "the paint on the Mack Indoor Pool ceiling deck and structural joists above the pool is failing. To preserve the life of the structure and numerous mechanical systems operating at the pool facility, the pool ceiling deck and joists will have existing coatings removed and will be re-painted. In addition, painting will be performed on the steel lintels and the roof drain piping will be replaced. The existing coatings have tested positive for lead, so measures will be implemented to ensure the safe removal of the lead based paint." The memo indicates that two bids were received by the City for this project: Classic Painting Company, Inc. $182,712; and

  Maniaci/Watt, LLC. $183,800. Staff is recommending award of the contract to Maniaci/Watt, LLC in the amount of $183,800 because the bid by Classic Painting Company, Inc. did not include the required paint materials.

Parking is available off of Brooks Street, which is the first street going north off of Miller Avenue east of Seventh Street.

The proposed budget would keep all of the city’s 157 parks open, but would cut back maintenance – mowing and snow removal – on 17 parks.
