Located near the corner of Platt Road and Ellsworth, the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) is a dropoff point for recyclables and a pickup point for city compost. It's near the Solid Waste Dropoff center (don't let the waste part confuse you -- they take recyclables, too). Compost is available in bulk by weight.

Tom McMurtrie, the city's solid waste coordinator, lobbied the council to approve the upgrades under a contract with FCR LLC, operator of the city-owned facility for the past 15 years. "The facility is very successful," McMurtrie said. "We're working two shifts a minimum of five days a week, sometimes seven days a week."
