The New York Central Railroad is a successor to the Michigan Central Railroad and other railroads, consolidating its operations. Like all railroad history, it gets complicated.

Ypsilanti Branch

The NYCRR's Lake Shore and Michigan Southern line went from Ypsilanti southwest to Hillsdale. Originally built as the Detroit, Hillsdale and Indiana Railroad with the construction happening in 1870. It became the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern in 1881.
