U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Holland leads a field of six in the Republican contest for governor, according to a Rasmussen poll of likely GOP primary voters released today. Hoekstra leads with 27 percent followed by Ann Arbor venture capitalist Rick Snyder at 18 percent, Attorney General Mike Cox at 13 percent and Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard at 6 percent. Five percent of respondents said they prefer some other candidate. State Sen. Tom George of Kalamazoo and Troy businessman David Kniffen also are running.
