Roger R. Bertoia (b. January 13, 1938; d. June 23, 2012) served on the Ann Arbor City Council as a Republican representing Ward 3 from April 1974 to April 1978.

Obituary

Age 74 passed away unexpectedly at home June 23, 2012. He was born the son of Basilio and Loretta (Lambert) Bertoia in Detroit, Michigan on January 13, 1938. Roger was a founding faculty member of Washtenaw Community College, starting as a drafting instructor and retiring as Dean of Technology and Occupational Education. He was a former two term member of Ann Arbor City Council. He was known to many as a coach and mentor for youth sports, especially baseball and football. He was an avid U of M and Detroit team sports fan. Most of all, Roger was a loving father and grandfather, who put family first, and was always at his children's and grandchildren's events and was always available for advice and help. Roger is survived by his two sons Michael S.(Karen) Bertoia of Saline and Anthony H. (Kristin) Bertoia of Ann Arbor. He is also survived by his grandchildren Courtney, Nicholas, Alex Brandon and Dominic as well as his sister-in-law Joann Bertoia of Milford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Bertoia. A gathering of friends and family will take place on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Nie Family Funeral Home at 2400 Carpenter Road from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A private funeral and burial at Forest Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Pioneer or Saline High schools track teams.
