The State of Michigan outlawed smoking in restaurants and bars as of May 1, 2010. The law exempts only cigar bars, retail tobacco stores, private home offices, company vehicles including commercial trucks, and Detroit's three casinos' gambling floors.
How it was before the ban
The following bars, or in some cases restaurants with a liquor license and a reasonable atmosphere for just stopping in for a drink, have a no smoking policy.
- Zanzibar on State (bar)
- Red Hawk on State (bar)
- Casey's Tavern on Depot (across from amtrak station) (bar)
- Rick's American Cafe on Church (bar/club)
- Seva on Liberty
- Blue Nile on Washington
- The Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti - smoking allowed in the beer garden, but not in the bar or event area.
