Sofia Franciscus is a specialist in water & energy conservation and serves on the Ann Arbor planning commission.

She was nominated to the planning commission by then-mayor John Hieftje and confirmed by the city council on Sept. 2, 2014. She was appointed to fill the remainder of a term held by Paras Parehk, who resigned earlier that year. The term runs from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016.

She has served in a variety of jobs throughout her career, most recently in project development for U.S. Water Services, a water-treatment company. 

Franciscus is married to Joel Gechter, a CPA who works as a financial advisor for the accounting firm Rehmann. They live on the city's northwest side.
