Thomas McIntyre Cooley, LL.D., (January 6, 1824 – September 12, 1898) was the 25th Justice and a Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, between 1864 and 1885. Born in Attica, New York, he was father to Charles Cooley, a distinguished American sociologist. He was a charter member, and first chairman, of the Interstate Commerce Commission.

 He served as compiler of Michigan statutes, as reporter to the state Supreme Court, and in 1859 became one of the first professors of law at the University of Michigan. He moved from Adrian to Ann Arbor in 1859 and remained there for the rest of his life as an important leader of the community and of the developing University of Michigan. In 1864 he was elected to the Michigan Supreme Court, where he served as the leading justice for twenty years.
