The County Clerk and Register of Deeds is elected on the partisan ballot to a four-year term. The current incumbent is Larry Kestenbaum, elected in 2004.

Originally the "County Clerk" and "Register of Deeds" were two separate elected positions (and remain separate in most Michigan counties); Washtenaw County merged them in the 1980s.

The Clerk-Register is responsible for vital records, elections, court records, and deeds.
