William Sumner Maynard (April 25, 1802 – June 18, 1866) served as mayor of Ann Arbor from 1856-1858 and again from 1865-1866. Maynard was born in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He suffered from severe depression and committed suicide by an overdose of morphine. William's father, Ezra Maynard, settled in Pittsfield Township on land that is now Cobblestone Farm.
