Limited--restaurant still has same basic layout it's had for last 50 years. |
The Wolverine has been open since the 1930s; in early 2012 Kevin Hill purchased the business from the Batianis family, who had operated it since 1963. The latest incarnation of the restaurant retains the basic burger-fries-and-a-coke format, but offers options for a variety of preferences: the menu prominently labels items that are vegetarian, made in Michigan, or gluten-free (not celiac-safe, but the "we have a dedicated toaster for our gluten-free bread" kind). In addition, Hill has a commitment to sourcing locally where possible--the restaurant frequently features specials using seasonal produce from the Growing Hope demonstration farm, and Sunday coffee comes from the Ugly Mug. (Everyday coffee is sourced from Lansing's Paramount Coffee.)
Scenes in the movies Whip It and Love and Honor were filmed in the Wolverine.
