Description: Please call the hotline before visiting the Advice Desk. The Advice Desk, located on the 6th Floor of the Daley Center in downtown Chicago, provides legal assistance to indigent and working-poor persons who represent themselves in court. The desk is staffed between 8:30am and 4:30pm every day that the Court House is open. People are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. CARPLS Legal aid hotline provides advice, information and referral services over the telephone to low income residents of Cook County, IL. Attorneys answer questions on all areas of civil law. Calls are answered directly by staff and volunteer attorneys who analyze the caller's problem and help the client negotiate available options. Maintains a database that houses the intake criteria of over 28 different legal aid providers in the County. The database matches the client's characteristics with those of the providers in order to generate the most appropriate referral. Pro se instruction is often necessary. Maintains a substantial library of pro se and client education materials that we mail to clients when appropriate. Free services to clients whose income qualifies.
