The Indian Mounds are two small hills created 5,000 years ago (according to LSU materials) by Native Americans. Their original purpose is unknown; in fact, very little seems to be known about their cultural significance, though similar mounds remain elsewhere in the region. Today they are covered with grass and can be climbed for a different perspective on campus. Though they are on the National Register of Historic Places, visitors sometimes slide down them for fun, especially on game days. The mounds are located between Tiger Stadium and the Quad: map.
