Thrift Stores provide Baton Rouge with additional shopping options for the cost-conscious buyer as well as providing an outlet for reuse of serviceable used merchandise. There are a variety of thrift stores, many run by non-profits as well as independent shops.

The selection can be varied, but if you're looking for a inexpensive furniture, $1.00 vase, a $2.00 ink jet, unusual books or $4.00 jeans that are barely worn, it's hard to beat a thrift store. If you need a pair of pants to work in the yard or clean out the furnace, get an inexpensive pair at a local thrift store. Hey - make a statement in some lime-green polyester (;>} !

If you have too many pants, skirts, shorts, or tops in your closet/drawers, get them on down to one of these outlets and help them raise money for a good cause!!

Non-Profit Outlets:

  • Goodwill - 9604 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815-1110 - Ph: (225) 927-8313 and 3121 College Ave.: The Goodwill location on College between the highway and Perkins is large, clean, brightly lit, and well-organized. The friendly staff can set you up with free stuff if you qualify, and they do so frequently. They also provide fashion advice. Enormous selection of women's formalwear; housewears and kid's clothes also get lots of shelf space.
  • Salvation Army
  • St. Vincent de Paul - Thrift Stores Index - 8 stores in area and lots of drop boxes: The St. Vinnie's location on Government (next door to Fleur de Lis Pizza) is a crowded mess, bursting at the seams with clothes and people. Not as cheap or well organized as the nearby Goodwill location on College, this St. Vinnie's might still have what you want. Moderate selection of women's formalwear and household glassware.
  • Volunteers of America

Independent shops:

  • Time Warp Boutique - 3001 Government St: This is a vintage clothing store, and is not as cost-conscious as a typical thrift store. It has men's and women's clothing, shoes, and accessories- mostly dressy items, some quite expensive. If your parents and grandparents had been really snappy dressers and they had saved all their best outfits, your closet might look like Time Warp. Or you might just look like your Grandma.
